• Absolutely terrible. Does the bare bare minimum.

One HUGE thing, that is extremely simple, that I want to toggle off(receiving 2 e-mails every single time someone makes an account. One for registering and another for changing passwords) isn’t an option, because I didn’t pay the high prices for a monthly license. This eats through my hourly SMTP email limits.

I’ll replace it the second I can.

    Hi @peq42

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, but we’re sorry to hear that you’re not satisfied with the current features of the lite version of WP Mail SMTP.

I have shared your feedback with our team, but I’d like to address a few of your points directly.

You mentioned that your current SMTP service has an hourly email limit that gets triggered by the WordPress registration and password reset emails. In that situation, you could check your logs using a logging plugin like WP Mail Logging, confirm how many emails your website sends on average then try switching to a different mailer that offers higher hourly/daily email limits.

Also, our WP Mail SMTP Pro licenses are annual subscriptions and not monthly.

The core functionality of WP Mail SMTP is represented in the lite version by the availability of multiple mailers and troubleshooting tools such as test emails, debug events, and scheduled actions.

Even though other benefits are available in the paid version, those features we mentioned are invaluable as they really do come in handy when setting up or troubleshooting a mailer.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by Email Controls not being a lite feature in WP Mail SMTP, but we honestly strive to include various features in our products that justify the price of our subscriptions.

I know its a total of 3 sent messages for each and every registration. 1 for the user, to set a password, and 2 for me, to tell me a new user joined and that there’s been a password change.

That’s a total of 3 messages PER USER. 33 users and thats 100 messages sent, an hourly limit on a lot of SMTP services

    Hi @peq42

Thanks for getting back to us.

I understand that some SMTP services can have low limits, but others have higher limits.

Most services won’t make their limits public for security reasons, but I am aware that the hourly limit for SendLayer’s lowest annual subscription (Starter plan) is over 100. Their higher plans have higher limits to cater to greater email volumes.

If you instead prefer to use a free SMTP service to keep costs down, then your best bet is to look into alternative methods of disabling default WordPress registration emails.

Unfortunately, we do not have a specific alternative in mind.
