It’s a pretty plugin but the add-ons are grossly overpriced, and overall missing a lot of basic features that Seamless Donations had working well. For example, I need to import via a comma-delimited database with phone numbers. Even though I added a phone number field to the form the import module never reflects this field value in the database. So what? I can’t import all the phone numbers from the previous donor database. I could not find any way to do so. A person should be able to add database fields to import in some manner.

Additionally, when I run the database upload as a dry run, at the end it deletes the csv file even though a dry run, not the actual import? I have it set to delete the uploaded csv file when the actual import takes place, but it should not delete during a dry run. Poor development.

I keep running into endless ticks and bugs. I can’t change the order of the fields in the donation form address fields. Who puts the country on top? That should be on the bottom, but no way to move it. Been on this simple project for 5 hours encountering endless roadblocks while the donation form is certainly NOT user-friendly.

    Hey @inndesign!

Glad you reached out here, I can definitely help.

To start, importing a CSV that maps a “phone number” field to the donor record is possible, but requires a bit of work for sure. Our support team is more than happy to help with that. It’ll require our premium add-on Form Field Manager (or some custom code) so I am not really allowed by forum rules to support that functionality here on the www.ads-software.com forums, but reach out to our team at https://givewp.com/contact-us and we will be able to hook you up with one of those premium add-ons so that you can make this happen.

I know it’s never fun to migrate from one plugin to another, and I want to make that process as easy as possible. We want to take care of Seamless Donations users that are moving to us now that the developer there is moving on to new things.

As for your comment about the price of our add-ons: we put a ton of thought into making sure that our prices are such that our customers (who are largely nonprofits) can afford it, and such that our team will be around for years to come to take care of those customers. We are more than happy to discuss your specific needs. Reach out via the contact form above.

Final thought: good catch on the “don’t delete the file during a dry run” issue. I’ve submitted a bug report here: https://feedback.givewp.com/bug-reports/p/dry-run-on-the-importer-should-not-delete-the-file

Note that not all bugs are equal, and ones like this that have a clear and simple workaround (upload the file again!) might not get worked on immediately.

I’m going to mark this issue as “resolved” only because the next steps are to reach out to us on a different forum. We’ll take care of you for sure.

    Greetings @benmeredithgmailcom,

I am a dedicated server host and serve hundreds of clients.

My client already has Form Field Manager 3.0.4 installed. Otherwise we could not have as mentioned above “Even though I added a phone number field to the form the import module never reflects this field value in the database.” Therefore the FFM doesn’t work as it should if developed properly. Since the field “Phone Number” is added via Form Field Manager, the import process should map to the field created during the imports, except NO custom field added using FFM is recognized during the mapping process. I have many years of database experience going back to Paradox and dBase. As such, mapping is extremely simple, therefore if the addon plugin worked as it should if properly developed, the field would be resident to import into.

I could correct the PHP in the modules to allow this, but your developers would need to implement the fixes on your end. Otherwise, this is a bug, and any additional workaround as you mentioned is unnecessary if the combined plugins were developed properly.

You did not address another issue: “I can’t change the order of the fields in the donation form address fields. Who puts the country on top?” If the FFM addon is supposed to allow this, it doesn’t work.

    Thanks.

    Hi @inndesign!

As I said, we’re not allowed to support premium products here, by forum rules. So I have to assure you again that we *can* help you add custom fields to an import, but that you’ll need to reach out to us on another forum. The trick is to correctly label the column on your CSV to exactly match the meta name for the field you are importing *to*. So, create a form with the phone number field, and add the meta key for that field as the header row of the column in the CSV, and then map it to meta in the importer.

I’m sure there are areas of the importer that could use some developer attention, but I have personally tested and it’s definitely possible, without hacking our PHP, to import custom fields from FFM into your site. If you need help with that, we’re more than happy to provide it, it just can’t be here, on this forum.

As to the “who puts the country on top” question: most address forms do that. The reason is fairly simple: if you select Canada, there’s a field for “Province” while if you select “United States” that field changes to “State.” We don’t want for users to fill out the whole address only to then need to change it to a different country.

That’s a fairly standard thing on the web, as of late, and in my opinion vastly superior to the old method of having Country last. It takes some getting used to for folks (like you and I) who grew up labeling envelopes, where the country goes last.

Thanks @benmeredithgmailcom for your responsive and articulate comments. I wish more support people took their task as serious. Appreciate it!
