• I’m still struggling to install WordPress correctly. The sympotoms are that I’m unable to save anything to the site via user input… either as an Anonymous User or Administrator.

Several people have helpfully suggested that I check my File Permissions, which I have done. It now appears that I am missing .htaccess. (I have checked the Show Hidden Files box on FileZilla, so I should be seeing that).

    My questions:

    1. Why might this be missing? (I’ve installed WordPress twice, and evidently had the same problem each time).

    2. Can I generate .htaccess? If so, how?

(I can’t find any info on this in Codex or via search).

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Who is your host ?

    jtlnet.com

The .htaccess just should not matter for what is happening.
Are you confident the install went correctly ?

Again, I am a newbie, so am struggling through this.

I have found the .htaccess file, but it was in the ROOT directory of the site, rather than in the root directory of WordPress.

Essentially, while I’m developing the blog, its root directory is at https://www.sitename.com/blog/.

.htaccess is found in the https://www.sitename.com/ directory
This file contains comments refering to FrontPage (site currently has FrontPage extensions)… and does NOT refer in any way to the Blog root directory (www.sitename.com/blog)

WordPress main files are located in the /www.sitename.com/blog directory

    Any leads would be appreciated.

As best I can tell, the install went fine. I’ve done it twice from scratch, with same results.

What you have described above is fine – some hosts do have those FP directories littering the place but they are not in the way.

    You install.
Do you see the first “Hello World” post ?
Can you edit that post ?

Can we have a url to your site ?

Yes, we see the first “Hello World” post.
    No, I can’t edit it.
    Yes, the url is: https://www.biblein90days.org/blog/
    Thanks!

    Your theme is broken.
change to another theme ? Classic would be good.

Just switched to Classic. Same problem with every theme I try:

    hmm……gets odder ??
All I can think of doing is taking a look at your site from the inside / ftp side of things and checking it’s all in the right place, right permissions etc. I can do that for you if you wanted to email me some info ?

Sure, I’m stuck. Would appreciate it.

    Hmm…
All non-theme files have been replaced by fresh 1.5.2 files
    All permissions are correct
The 2 url’s on Options are correct
    Permalinks set up and work
    WP-Medic reports nothing wrong

mysql 4.1.10 – a search here shows a fair number of posts with that mentioned. I’ve asked the OP to find out if his hosts have any working WP installs.
