    I’m helping out a friend with their site.

    There are several addon domains on the hosting package (7 in total). All are wordpress.

    4 have been setup as multisite.

    The main site doesn’t exist (maybe deleted by the last web admin) so i can’t login to to /wp-admin/network to mange the sites and i need to install a plugin on one of the multisites.

    The multi site definition: define( 'MULTISITE', true ); doesn’t exist in ANY of the wp-config files either in the root folder or the 7 sub folders.

    Can i upload a fresh copy of WordPress to the root folder and “pretend” to setup a network? Or is there some other way i can un-pick this mess, as it doesn’t need to be multi site.

    Thanks!

    Is there any way to undo a multi site without the master existing?

    Read https://halfelf.org/2014/switching-main-blog-multisite/

    You may need to make some DB edits insted of doing it in wp-admin, but you can change the main site to something else to get in.

    Mind you… You can’t actually DELETE the primary site, so I’d be interested to know how you did that.

    Ok thanks for the link.

    I’ve visited each of the 7 sites, appending /wp-admin/network/ to the URL for each of them. Always the message says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

    I’m not a WordPress guru, and i don’t even know if this is setup as a multisite or not. It was just a guess based on previous research as to why the install plugin button was missing (for 4 of the sites on this hosting package).

    Okay! That DOES NOT mean you switched or delete anything! That means your account doesn’t have access! THIS IS OKAY! We can fix this!

    Thanks for your help!

    I went through each of the databases and found no such table called wp_sitemeta.

    Then, I noticed in the file manager someone had made a backup of the wp_config file, so i downloaded both and checked over them.

    I found these two lines in the middle of the file

    define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT',true);
    define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS',true);

    When i removed them all was well, and i could log in as normal and install plugins.

    Disaster averted!

    Thanks again for your assistance in resolving this!
