In the classic editor we cannot find the option to make a table and subsequently to make a new row or column in a table. In fact, the option to make a table or to alter is, is missing on the toolbar.

Since this is a quite standard option, I guess it has to do with a setting but can’t find it.

How can we add this option to the toolbar.

Thank you in advance for answering.

Hi @tenor2 – Table creation isn’t part of the Classic Editor, either in its standalone plugin form, or back when it was the default WordPress editor. A separate table plugin was required. I don’t know if any table plugins would be currently compatible the Classic Editor, but you’re welcome to have a look around and test some out.

If the block editor is an option for you, I suggest giving the built-in Table block a try.

Dear Kathryn, thank you for your kind reply. Than I do not need to search for the option in the classic editor. :-). Problem is that for the tables I use plug-in WP Edit however that plug-in has not been updated for 5 years (..).

That fact holds me back when it comes to updating from WordPress 5.9.7 to WordPress 6 version.

Anyway, I will follow your advise and see if one of the suggested plug-ins will work so I can, without fear that the site will break, update to WordPress 6.

Again thank you very much for your help.
