On May 6, I noticed that some of my products were missing the descriptions (after a customer complained) so I looked into it and called HostGator. They told me that WooCommerce had done an update and there was a bug causing this issue. They assumed it would be fixed soon. It has been over a week, so I called back. I have counted at least 44 products missing the description (out of 310). They looked into it, sent me to WordPress who told me I needed to contact WooCommerce, that it was a plug in issue. I don’t know how to do that. All I could find is that I should post something here. I don’t know what I am doing. I have limited understanding of most of this. What do I do?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I can see it load on refresh. I’m not sure exactly what’s blocking it from appearing, but I have to chalk it up to cache perhaps. What are you using for caching?

Here’s a screenshot of what I saw on the refresh. It’s definitely there, so it’s not WooCommerce. It’s an app or caching.

I wish I knew how to answer that question. I have no idea.

Well, search your apps and see if you have a caching app and turn it off.

Secondly, reach out to your host, I’ve never heard of them before as I did a look up, and ask them if they have caching on, and if you can shut it off for a minute to test and you’ll have your answer. ??

Thank you. I will call Host Gator and tell them that… they told me it was Woo Commerce.

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

I did not see HostGator as your host. Maybe they’re your registration but I see a name I have never heard of.

I’m not saying it’s them and I’m not saying it’s Woo. We’re debugging and this is where we start. Why? Because it’s there on refresh. But either you have an app or caching affecting it.

Turn off each app one at a time and refresh a product page in another window after turning it off. And go thru each one until it shows. Right now I think your caching is crushing the jQuery that loads that section though

Thank you for your help. They tried turning off ever plug in and he was not able to find it. And now I see that it does show up when I hit refresh… but it disappears a second later. He wants me to call the Word Press design team tomorrow morning. He still says it is a Woo problem.. but he also thinks they should be able to fix it. But they might want to charge me.

I can tell you it’s not WooCommerce. You can see that by switching to a default theme.

If by WP design team you mean your freelancer that built it. Then yes, check with them if they added a hook or custom coded something.

However, this has not been reported anywhere that I can see as an issue with WooCommerce.

You can leave a systems report and we can try and narrow it down from there.

Go to?WooCommerce?>?Status?>?Get Systems Report?and pasting that here inside using a?Code Block.

It’s your theme – you’ve got a line in the code that is adding a display:none CSS line to that tab

Host Gator told me to call the design team at WordPress today.

    (@serafinnyc)

Hello again @scriptsbywarren HostGator is really bad at giving advice. We don’t have a design team. This is pretty much it for support. This forum. A group of volunteers.

But @seank123 is correct. You have a setting on that element that is hiding it. I’m not able to catch it and I’m not sure how they did, but his screenshot is clear. So you either have a setting in your theme that says enable or disable Single Product Description or an app that is doing it. You need to review all your settings.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m kind of stuck, not having the funds to pay someone to fix this and also not having the skills myself. I’m not very tech savvy. My theme is Astra.. and I have reached out to them, tried to explain the problem and see what happens… it might take a few days before they get back to me, since I have the free service.

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

The settings for Astra are in Customize > WooCommerce > Single Product > then scroll down. I think only upgraded theme users can hide the description. So look in there to see if the eye for that has been greyed out. It’ll say Long Description

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

I found what you are saying… but there is no long description, only a short description.

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

Then maybe it is somewhere else, maybe you have an app that is causing this. Again, switch over to a default theme for 5 seconds and check. Use Storefront or 2024 and see if it shows. If it does it’s your theme. If it doesn’t it’s an app.

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

Again, thank you for all your help. But as I have no idea how to do any of that… I still feel stuck. I don’t know what a default theme is and how to find those others or use them. I paid to have the WordPress design team help me build my website, and believe me I called them a few times every day for a few weeks till I got it done. I really know very little about most of this.
