Hello, as of the Woocommerce 9.5.1 update, I’m now missing the “Products by Category” block from the page builder (the default page builder, not using any special page builders). I can copy and paste it from other pages, but I can’t directly add it any more. Was this removed on purpose? I don’t see anything referencing that in the changelog. I use that block pretty much daily (build stores for different groups on separate pages, separated internally by product category), and I don’t know why it would be removed, so I’m wondering if it’s a bug.

    Hi @proknitwear ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

You’re correct—following the recent update, the Products by Category block has been replaced with the more versatile Product Collection block. This new block allows you to display products using a variety of criteria, such as categories, tags, and more.

To display products from a specific category, you can use the “Related Products” option within the “Product Collection” block and set the “Related by” control to “Categories.”

For more details about this change and other updates in WooCommerce 9.5, feel free to check out the 9.5 update release notes.

I hope this clears things up!

This is terrible solution, new feature does not work as the previous, everything is much slower also.

    Hello wintercyclone,

    Thank you for your reply.

This is terrible solution, new feature does not work as the previous, everything is much slower also.

Could you please be more specific?
I want to understand which new features are not working like the previous version.
There may be a way to make it work with this new block.

Once I have more information, I will be in a better position to assist you further.

    Best regards.

Yeah, this solution doesn’t work on my end. I have hundreds of product categories. When I go to search for a product to then show the related products by category, I can’t find the specific products since I have so much overlap (e.g. 100s of products called “Hoodie”). If it allowed searching by SKU, that would work for me, but it only works by item name, which doesn’t work. I can’t search specifically enough.

    I’m using a workaround right now with a shortcode: [products limit=”36″ columns=”4″ category=”Relevant_Category”]

This workaround isn’t great because it displays differently than the Products by Category block does.

    Hi @proknitwear ,

I understand the challenge you’re facing with searching products by name due to overlap and the limitations it brings. The Product Collection block, which replaces the Product by Categories block, does allow filtering by category, and I think it might help address your needs better.

I’ve recorded a quick video showing how to filter products using categories with the Product Collection block: https://www.loom.com/share/4415ef1034e2494e8a8207148634bcc7?sid=9a50ee54-603b-45a2-bd11-63a20f288150

Feel free to check it out, and let us know if you have any questions!

That does work, thanks for the video, I’ll mark as resolved since it technically works. It’s very clunky though compared to the Products by Category block, or even compared to just using the shortcode.

I’ll probably just continue to use the shortcode over the Product Collections block.

Ok… I’m trying to get through my resistance to change with this new block, however I can’t seem to find a way to remove the “Add to Cart” button as well as the price for the list of products. This was very easy with the previous Products by Category block. How can I hide them now?

    Hi there!

I understand your frustration. The Product Collection block (or similar product blocks) uses the Price block and Add to Cart block to display the price and the “Add to Cart” button.

If you want to hide the price and “Add to Cart” button:

    1. Open the block settings in the editor.
    2. Remove the Price block and Add to Cart block from within the Product Collection block.

This should effectively hide both elements from your product display. I have created a short video to guide you on how to remove the price and “Add to Cart” button in the Product Collection block.

Thank you so much for that video, it was super helpful and exactly what I needed to fix my problem. It is a little more work than it was before but I think I’m getting the hang of it.

    Hello from Belgium.
On the new ‘Product Collection’ block we would like to show the ‘short description’.
We did have a php script to that on the previous ‘Products by Category’ block but this script does not work on the ‘Product collection’ block.
Is there a way to show the short description on the ‘Product Collection’ block?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @wporglak,

I understand that you have a somewhat similar problem.

However, as per forum best practices, it is advised that you create a new thread so that we can address your issue(s) separately.

You can create a new thread here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/woocommerce/#new-topic-0 and make sure to include as much information as you can.

    Thanks for understanding!
