    Hi there

I am having issues with enhanced ecommerce tracking (GA3) for a customer that uses WooCommerce (although the enhanced ecommerce tracking used to work).

    GA3: Transactions reported over time
    https://ibb.co/GFtzb60

The website uses WP and WooCommerce and I have implemented enhanced ecommerce tracking with the Google Tag Manager for WordPress plugin.

When I check backend data from WooCommerce, I can see that the reported transactions reported in GA3 are way off. But I am sending the ecommerce data with an GA event tag and if you look at the events the numbers match much better with the reported transactions in WooCommerce:

    WooCommerce orders overview
    https://ibb.co/3YLBbK2

    GA3 purchase events
    https://ibb.co/vdRsM3L

Despite having 34 purchase events matching up with the backend data in the periode, I only have two transactions reported in the ecommerce reports.

I did a test conversion the other day and everything looks okay in GTM/Data layer/Browser/Event tracking:

    Datalayer – Ecommerce purchase
    https://ibb.co/TcjmHbn

GA/GTM Debugger – Ecommerce details on test purchase
    https://ibb.co/VDQ8sd2

GA event sent on test purchase
    https://ibb.co/GV0CHwh

    GA purchase event tag
    https://ibb.co/gtHBHfM

Transaction data seems to be sent to GA3, but the transaction is not reported.

I was wondering if maybe an update in the plugin could explain the few reported transactions? Or could the answer be something related to WooCommerce – maybe cancelled orders are retracted via the measurement protocol and processing orders are also retracted and perhaps lost when they are finally completed?

I could really use some input since I simply cannot figure out why the reporting of transactions has almost stopped. Oddly, transactions reported in GA4 matches orders in WooCommerce much better (and it uses input from the GA3 ecommerce data layer)

Any input will be MUCH appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello, what is the percentage of differences in Backend vs GA? If it’s less that 30% it’s normal due to Adblockers (some) and mostly due to Online Payment System. Users don’t have to back to the shop after payment which pushes the transaction to GA.

    Hi Piotr

Thanks for taking the time to answer my inquiry.

I did some test purchases and found a new trigger that tracks transactions (or at least 9/10).

Why the old trigger stopped working is still a mystery – but I am just happy ecommerce measurement works again.

Thanks again and have a great summer

    Sincerely,

    Kristian
