Missing translation strings

Messages like “Please fill in this field”, “Please enter an e-mail address” and “Please select a value that is no less than” are generated by the web browser independent of the plug-in.

Presumably the are in English because the browser you are using is in English.

The plug-in creator can override these messages, but the question then becomes if they should do that, considering it is the visitor’s choice to use a web browser that uses a certain language to visit web pages in a different language.

@hatesspam, ehm… the browser does not control the website language. That only controls its menu bar etc. The website controls the main language with WP Locale. You can change it automatically to suit the browsers, but that requires custom jQuery coding and is not default.
My browsers are Dutch, but if set WP to any other language, the website will be in that selected locale. ??

Translation files are not included in the download anymore. WordPress moved that a few years ago to an online community so true natives could translate more efficient and better.

I installed the Loco Translate plugin but it doesn’t find the strings.

That is because Loco Translate (and other plugins) use the .pot file for translations. Nick, the developer of Mollie Forms, did not include that, because of the Slack translations. ??

If you want to create your own, custom translation file, I would suggest downloading the free version of Poedit (https://poedit.net), create a .pot file and them translate the strings locally.

Beware though, that WordPress Slack translations will overrule the custom translations. the load_textdomain() function will first look in wp-content/languages/plugins/ for the file. If that is not found, it will check the plugin folder.

Patrick Buntsma, I did not say that the browser controls the website language. The browser does however provide its own validation strings if you use HTML 5 forms. Sending a user on a wild goose chase for validation strings that do not occur in the plug-in is not helpful.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your help. I did check the validation message in a Dutch version of Chrome and it appears that hatesspam is right. The messages are translated in the browser’s language. They do not appear in the pot file mollie-forms-nl_NL.po.

But I stll didn’t find how to translate the payment status rendered by the {rfmp=”status”} variable in my e-mails. There are 2 payment strings in the pot file (Paid and Not paid) but they do not seem to work for the mails.
