• Hello there,

I’ve found this issue with the block editor that started happening like a couple of months ago. The problem is that when displacing the cursor with the keyboard and trying to paste a link with its shortcut (ctrl+k) the pop-up window appears behind the menu bar and on top of the page instead of below the block.

I’ve record this on video so it’s easier to see: https://www.veed.io/view/d823a66b-90bd-4c9d-ba16-9f19dda0720a

This happens to me on different WordPress instances, all updated to latest version.

Thanks for any help.
Cheers,

Hi @cperez500 – I’ve been trying to recreate this with just Gutenberg active, and haven’t been able to. It may be that there is some kind of conflict with either the theme or plugins being used on your site.

You mentioned testing this in different WordPress instances – do you have any of the same plugins installed in all those instances?

It may be useful to test for a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.

There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

Thanks for your help @jordesign . Indeed both instances share some plugins along with the theme. I activated Troubleshooting Mode and tried again and the issue still happens.

The easiest way I’ve found to test is like this:

1- Write something on a new text block.
2- Delete the text with the keyboard. I use shift+home then delete.
3- Use link shortcut (ctrl+k).

In fact, I’ve just realized that this is happening to me even on this forum with the new editor!

Hi @cperez500 – thanks for these. Would you mind recording another screencast showing the issue happening here in the forum?

Does this issue look like the same one you’re describing?

Hello @zoonini and thanks for your help. Sure thing, here is a video recording:

https://www.veed.io/view/dc38754f-90ba-4619-8d8c-dfdb3ffeeccb

I followed the same order as I mentioned before: writing something then using ctrl+k the popup works as expected, after that if I select and erase that text with the keyboard and press ctrl+k the popup appears just like the previous screenshot.

I’m not sure this is related to that other issue.

Thanks, @cperez500 – could you please provide the following details about your setup to see if I can replicate:

• Browser & version no. If you’re able to test it in more than one browser, that would be super helpful as well.
• Your OS & version no.

Thanks!

Hi @zoonini, here are the details:

• The browser is Opera version 98.0.4759.15.
• While OS is Windows 11 Pro 64-bit version 22H2.

I’ve just tried with Firefox and it works correctly!

Hi @cperez500 if this is not happening on a different browser then this is likely a browser issue. To rule out the issue Kathryn shared, can you please adjust your screen height and width to see if the issue persists?

Nevertheless, this seems to be related I have made a comment on the GitHub issue.

Hello @thelmachido ,

For sure, the previous tests were always on a maximized window so I tried reducing it. And the link popup still appears aligned to the top left corner, here’s a screenshot:

Also I’ve just realize that this issue happens when the text cursor is at the beginning of the block, but not if I do the same actions and there’s some text before it.

Hope that helps, many thanks.

Thanks for providing more information, please feel free to follow the GitHub issue to see what the developers will say concerning this case. Also feel fee to add your own experience there as well as this might help push this forward.
