Mixed access settings

Hi,

I’m an experienced developer but I’m new to WordPress. I need to create a WordPress site for my photo club. I have understood how the software works but I’m still unclear about managing site access.

The site should have both public access for some pages (presentation, general information, etc.) but will restrict access to most articles and pages to the registered users (no self registration allowed). I don’t see how I can achieve this with the native functionality of WP. Should I use a specialized plugin or did I really miss something ?
