    Hi
I am using shipping based on cart $ total. Right now my store only has physical items so shipping applies to all. I am looking at setting up some virtual downloadable products so shipping costs wont apply to those items. I have checked off the options in the product page, virtual and downloadable for those products.

If I only have 1 virtual product in the shopping cart, the shipping cost does not show – which is correct. If I have one virtual item and one physical item in the shopping cart, the shipping costs are based on the total cart $ value (including the virtual product) which is not correct – the shipping costs should be only based on the physical product.

Can anyone point me to instructions on how I can get the shipping costs to work correctly when both virtual and physical items are in the shopping cart ?

  • Hi @yatgirl,

The scenario with the virtual and physical product you described is intentional. The cost is calculated based on the value of the entire cart.

With free version of the plugin and assuming the cost based on the cart value, your scenario is not possible to set up.

You can achieve it using the PRO version. But it is forbidden to write about PRO version on this forum, so if you want to know more about this, email us

ok thanks, its odd tho, that if 1 virtual product is added to the cart, shipping is not charged or shown at checkout, as per how woocommerce intended, but if a physical product is then added then flexible shipping plugin takes over and charges shipping on the whole cart… Seems that is taking away functionality from woocommerce….

I guess for now, I just wont add the virtual products to my store, they are too low cost to justify buying the pro version at this time – I would be losing money on the virtual products.

    Hi,

I understand your point of view, however, such a scenario when value of the whole order (although there are physical and virtual products in the cart) affects the lowering the shipping costs is practiced by plugin users.

And there is no interference in the WooCommerce in this case. There is only a basis for shipping costs on the entire value of the cart.

    Cheers,
    Przemyslaw
