Mixed content message on SSL due to use http

When we use this widget on sites that run under SSL, we are getting mixed content due to the default thumbnail link that is
https://placehold.it/45×45/f0f0f0/ccc
Can the default be changed to use //placehold.it/45×45/f0f0f0/ccc or something like that so it mixed content messages do not appear on sites that are SSL?
