    Hello,

I’m wondering how I can make the mobile menu on my Storefront theme show the submenu when the user taps anywhere on the parent item, instead of just the small little arrow.

While the arrow is nice, it causes issues since it’s so small and people miss it quite a lot.

    Thank you!

  • Hi there,

At the moment, Storefront doesn’t have any native functionality for that and it would definitely require additional custom coding. From a UX perspective though, if tapping the parent item is meant to open the submenu – users would not be able to access the *page* that the parent item is linked to (hence the reason for the arrow/chevron).

With that being said, have you considered increasing the size of the arrow to make it more prominent?

@riaanknoetze That is exactly what I told the person who owns the site. Users will lose access to the parent pages through the menu. I told him that increasing the arrow size makes it move visible, I did that but he went ahead and “tested” the website on three 50+ year old and they “couldn’t manage to figure out how it works”.

I am very aware of how it sounds, but I cannot fight it. That’s why I’m looking for solutions. Afterall, it is not my website.

@boxhatch I understand your frustration here, as I’ve dealt with a few customers when I was freelancing who had a specific goal for how their site should look/work and weren’t interested in much else. It’s their site, as you said, so they’re entitled to that.

In those cases, I had to custom code the functionality they wanted (though in a few cases they asked to change to the functionality I originanlly recommended after they received negative feedback). I think additional custom coding is the best option here, as RK said, if you’re not able to convince them of a different alternative for how the menus/submenus on mobile should work/function.

I’ll go ahead and mark this post as resolved. If you have any further questions or need additional help with the WooCommerce plugin, please start a new thread and we’ll be able to help you out there. Thanks!
