• Hi,

I got a question about mobile themes and responsive themes.

My blog vondt.net has Jetpack Mobile Theme enabled, but the thing is it only shows the mobile friendly version randomly – most of the times it will show the desktop version of the websites on mobile devices, which is a big issue.

I am running a Academica theme with the latest wordpress update installed.

    Plug-ins:

WP-SuperCache has the “Jetpack Mobile Theme” option enabled – and can’t see any other plugins that should cause this erratic behaviour.

    To sum it up:

I was hoping for some coding help to perhaps help me solve this problem – or other suggestions. And yes, I know it isn’t the most mobile friendly theme, but it works occasionally (which is the problem).

Thanks in advance, you good people. ??

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

The Academica theme is responsive so you don’t need Jetpack Mobile.

Thank you for answering, Steve and Staarmees.

Steve: Thank you. Sorry about this noob question, before I try it I would like to ask you if my settings and similar will be the same if I switch to another theme? I mean in terms of CSS and such?

Startmees: I didnt know that. So what I should do is de-activate the Jetpack modules for optimizing site for Smart Phones and tables?
Edit: I deactivated the option for mobile theme on JetPack, but theme still isnt responsive for mobiles – are there any other changes that I need to do?

3rd thing: I noticed that the site works on mobile devices (more often) directly after running a cache purge with WP super cache.. why would that be?

Thank you so much for helping me out!

Steve Stern: I followed your advice and de-activated the plugins one by one.

When I deactivated the WP Super Cache plugin the mobile version (mobile version enabled on JetPack) seems to work perfectly. So, there does seem to be an incompatibility between the two plugins even though the WP Super Cache has an own option for being “JetPack mobile friendly”.

Thinking about switching to a different cache plugin now.

    Any advice?

Thank you for your help so far. Much appreciated.

    Hi Adam,
Try this plugin W3 Total Cache

My opinion is that if your theme is responsive, you don’t need/want Jetpack’s mobile theme.

I agree with Steve, You do not need Jetpack!!!!!.
    It is troublemaker some times.
    Cheers
