• I just upgraded to WP 4.0 and am having some issues with plugins. Any time I try to do anything with any plugin, I get a Mod_Security error:

    Not Acceptable!

    An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

    If I go back and click on any link, it comes up with the same error. If I go to a page using the URL bar in my browser, it doesn’t.

    Installing plugins through the plugin directory doesn’t work. Installing by uploading a .zip does, but then trying to change any settings gives me the error again.

    I have tried putting:

    <ifModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </ifModule>

    into a .htaccess file in my /wp-admin folder, as well as in public_html. It doesn’t do anything. I’ve also tried putting SecFilterEngine Off and SecFilterScanPOST Off without the if tags, both separately and together, and it just makes my site throw a 500 error.

    Any ideas? As it doesn’t happen without going into the backend, I’m guessing a link won’t really help, but my site is https://www.danielfarrell.co.nz either way.

    Any ideas?

  • The only thing I could suggest is to contact your hosting provider and tell them you have having issues with mod_security. They might have a fix for it.

    You also might also want to try giving WP more memory too.
