• Hi,

I joined the WP community about a month ago.

We used one of the themes here and needed some help and support so we posted some questions in the main forums. I was then told that the theme we have has its own forum and to post our questions there, which we did several times. The posts are still there. I won’t mention the theme name.

I kindly posted several questions there at the support forum for our theme but did not get any replies for help requested. We received a couple replies from the main forum but that was about all. Nothing from the forum for our theme.

We were then told that our theme does not have the customization we are looking to do and that we could purchase the pro version for$35.00 which we gladly did.

I posted several other support questions that I posted at the forum for our theme but never got any replies. The posts are still all there.

The last post that was not one of mine are from a month ago or longer and they also did not show any replies for help. I can imagine their frustration.

Last night I posted at the support forum again for my theme. This is my post:Is this forum still active?? “I have posted a couple of posts from 2 days ago and have not received any replies.. is there another forum we are suppose to use for support help?”

This morning I noticed my post was removed! Wow.

Needless to say we really feel taken advantage of. And have wasted a lot of valuable time. It’s not about the $35.00, but the feeling of being taken advantage of and not getting the help and support. We are a small business trying to get our website going and just asking for help.

Going forward, if we decide to use WP, is there a theme that is supported in the main forums? So we are not directed to other forums for particular theme support?

I’m very disappointed and at this time not sure if we want to continue using WP.

    Hello.

So, here’s the thing: Everything on this site is free. The themes, the plugins, WordPress itself.

These forums exist as a community resource for users to help each other, and sometimes for authors to help out as well.

But, again, everything is free. Providing support is not a requirement for authors to have their themes here.

Now, you were advised to purchase something as an add-on to that theme. Great, that’s fine. But it doesn’t go through us, you paid the theme author directly. Your conversation about that should now go to them. We don’t allow discussion of paid things on these forums, because we don’t have any paid things here, only free things. If you are now in a financial transaction with somebody else, then you should talk to them for support through their systems, not here on these forums.

Does that help to make it more clear? Theme and Plugin authors don’t have to provide support here on www.ads-software.com, and if you paid for something, then you need to talk to who you paid directly instead of here.

Yes, conversations here on the forums that indicate that you bought a thing will get that conversation removed, because we don’t allow those types of discussions here. It’s a shared resource thing, you’re on a site that was not involved with your transaction at all, so posting and talking about it here doesn’t make a lot of sense.

In essence, www.ads-software.com is not a storefront. You can’t buy anything here, so there’s not a lot of value in having discussions about stuff you bought elsewhere being here. It’s like buying something from somebody on Etsy and then being upset that Amazon won’t let you talk about that in a review there. There is a disconnect between the two.

Hi, and thanks. Your really missing my point. Its not about the purchase, that is water under the bridge. There was no support at the forum for the theme.

    Hallo, Neptune ??

I’m not sure you understood that themes are provided by independent Open Source collaborators.
They are not provided by www.ads-software.com (other than the official bundled themes like TwentyTwenty).

If you paid for support, you should receive support. Unfortunately www.ads-software.com can’t help with that, because no one here was involved with the transaction.
Like Otto said, WordPress core, as well as any plugins in the www.ads-software.com repository and / or themes in the www.ads-software.com directory are free. Theme authors often provide support for their themes in their theme’s dedicated support forum, but they are not required to do so.

No themes are supported in the “main” forums.

If you want / need a premium theme, the best we can do here is to advise you to read reviews for the commercial version of the theme on whatever theme marketplace you are buying it from.

All the best with your site.
    Sends :coffee:

Hi Carike, and thank you for the kind reply. I totally understand, but didn’t understand about the difference on bundled themes like twenty twenty.

So if I used the twenty twenty theme, would I be able to get more support at the forums?

Thanks again… And just to reiterate, it wasn’t about the money spent, it was that there was absolutely no support at the support forum for that theme. Last posts replies were from months ago.

To answer your specific question, TwentyTwenty and other bundled theme forums are also manned by volunteers, so there is no guarantee. Unfortunately, the best I can do is that you are “more likely” to find help for a bundled theme, as there are more volunteers (not “related” to one another) working on them.

There are a number of options available to you, if you are looking for a different theme:
    – You could go through the official www.ads-software.com theme directory and find a theme that does what you need it to without customization;
    – You could stick with your current theme and find a (different) developer who is willing to do custom development for the theme / “fork” it / provide support for it. The same rule would apply though – such support can’t be provided on the .org forums and we can’t help you if things go wrong.
    – You could look for a premium theme from a theme marketplace like https://themeforest.net/ Again, if you choose this option (and many do!), you will need to take up any disputes with the marketplace and / or the payment provider (like PayPal).
When considering premium themes, have a look at the ratings, have a look at the site that actually provides the support (this usually happens through a “ticketing” system) and carefully read their Terms and Conditions. Do they provide support, or are you just paying for downloading the code? Do they have expected turn-around times for support? What are the refunds policy? Where do you raise a dispute? What is that process like?

I am sorry that your experience with a premium solution was a bad one.
For what it is worth, this is more likely the exception than the rule.
There is significant competition in the themes market and many developers go above and beyond to support their customers.
Many www.ads-software.com volunteers also go above and beyond to support other users of the site ??

I don’t see a link to your site (and you don’t need to provide one here), but I suspect that you may find that a blogging-focused theme like TwentyTwenty may not be suitable for you.
The WooCommerce team are very active when it comes to support. They have this theme in the www.ads-software.com repository: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/storefront/
They are by no means the only theme in the repository that have active support though and you should always follow your best judgement based on your specific situation.

Thank you for all the info and input. I think your correct after looking at the twenty twenty theme we sell a number of products and are/were planning on using woocommerce with our theme. But now I am at a hard stop and not sure what to do.

Our current site is here if you want to see where we were heading with design. Just simple. It’s https://wwW.dotSaFetypROshOp.Com.

I coded it so it doesn’t get indexed on Google

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated

Yeah, bundled themes are not ideal for e-commerce.
I removed the dot, so I think I got to the right place ??
Do take a look at that Storefront link. You can preview it in your Customizer in wp-admin as well. It might just do the trick for you.

Another option, if dedicated support is your main consideration, is to try WordPress.com. You can compare their plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
All the paid plans include e-mail and live chat support.

Just note that they are more limited in terms of the selection of themes that you can install.
You also need a Business plan to Install plugins / an e-Commerce plan for integrated shopping carts and payment systems.

    (@neptune1)

How do I look at that storefront link you sent through Customizer in wp-admin? Might be worth checking out.Sorry feels like a dumb question;)

Also do you happen to know if woocommerce has a free forum that I can ask some questions at?

    Thanks so much again!

Free support forum for the Storefront theme in the www.ads-software.com directory here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/storefront/

If you are looking for a premium WooCommerce theme: https://woocommerce.com/product-category/themes
Same rules apply to WooCommerce. They need to provide support for their premium solutions, including pre-sales queries, on their own platform: https://woocommerce.com/contact-us/
(so you can’t ask questions about paid products in their free support forum).

Under https://example.com/wp-admin/ go to Appearance -> Themes.
    Choose Add New.
    Search for “Storefront”.
If you click on the theme, you should see a button to Preview.

    :fourleafclover: ??

Oh thanks so much. I knew that was a dumb question, I do know how to preview it.??

Ok, so this is information no one told me, or I somehow overlooked and good to know.

I was under a different impression with WP theme support. Not what I had thought. Sounds like it can be a struggle depending on what you choose and a crap shoot. The forum theme we currently have hasn’t had a support question answered for months. So if I decided for some reason to keep our current theme, basically there is no one I can ask or get support from :(. Seems this person’s theme and support kind of leaves a bad impression if you see what I mean ??

I really just need a good pre designed template and something like woocommerce. As I don’t want to spend too much time with development..

Very frustrating indeed… And I appreciate your help and input..

I know that it can be a little daunting in the beginning.
Once you learn how to “vet” possible solutions, the sky is the limit though.

Go make yourself a great cup of coffee, take a deep breath and then try again :sunflower:

    (@neptune1)

Sounds like a really good idea??…

Wish I could find just a theme template with 4 pages, home, about, contact, and shop.

If you have any ideas please let me know ??????

Hi Carike, is there anyway I can find or get ahold of you for a question or two in the future? you’ve been most helpful here and helped me to turn my bad situation into a little better:).

Also I have decided to try out WooCommerce’s Storefront theme:). am already started working on it.

Holding thumbs. I really hope you find the solution that works for you ??

www.ads-software.com does not offer Personal / Direct Messaging.
It is possible to tag someone in your post by using an @ sign in front of their .org username.
Unless the person has notifications turned off, they will be notified of your mention.

I really don’t recommend that though.
There are a number of forum moderators and volunteers that are more active around the forums than I am. The time I contribute is mostly related to other www.ads-software.com teams / functions. I usually only pop up if I feel I can add some value to the conversation.
Asking for a specific person may discourage people who are very competent at what they do from wanting to help. That can quickly become unhealthy in an Open Source community, where everyone is a volunteer.

I’ll stop before this goes too far off-topic ??

    Thread Starter neptune1

    (@neptune1)

oh no worries at all, just thought to ask. I’ve belonged to other forums and was able to message folks directly and it worked out pretty well.

Yes, keep fingers crossed this works out for me. So far so good at the Storefront forum, everyone there seems very responsive to questions and so dos Woocommerce:)

    Take care.
