• Hi,
In this shop is very common situation, that the customer would like to modify the created order, change products, partly remove some product or add news. The typical payment methode is COD.
Is it possible in this case the modification of the order manually, by the shop owner technically?
If yes, will the shop send also automatic email about the change for the customer?
(The legal issues are covered by the GTC of the shop).
    Thank you very much.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hey @webreneszansz ,

Changing order details like product meta, fees, coupons, shipping, etc. can only be done on existing orders that are in the “pending” or “on hold” status. Once orders are in “processing” or further along in the?order status flow?they are no longer editable.

You may read more here: https://woocommerce.com/document/managing-orders/view-edit-or-add-an-order/

I’m not sure if WooCommerce has a workaround for this. We may wait for a WooCommerce support guy, and see what they can suggest.

Once the order is changed, I think it will send customer an email. If not, you can manually go to Order actions > send order details to customer > click the Arrow icon.

Or Add an order note and send it to the customer. Please see screenshot:

    Kind regards,

    Hi @webreneszansz ,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Yes, you can manually modify orders, including adding or removing products, even after they’ve been placed. In that case, you would need to change the order status to On Hold if the customer has already made a payment so it will show as Processing.

With the order now on-hold, you can:

    • Add or remove products
    • Adjust product quantities
    • Modify shipping details

After making changes, click Recalculate to update the order total. Then update the status to Pending Payment if an additional balance is due.

Regarding the email notification about your changes, by default, WooCommerce sends email notifications for various order actions, but it doesn’t automatically notify customers about manual order modifications. To notify them or request payment for the additional balance, you can send them a copy of their updated order.

To do this, in the Order actions box on the right, select Email invoice/order details to customer and click Update. The customer will then receive an email with their updated order and a payment link if needed.

    I hope this helps.
