    Hi guys,

I need some clarification here. I have an account and a domain registered with GoDaddy. I purchased a website builder from them because I am not techie and thinking their website builder will help make things easier for me. As I was slowly creating my website, I realized that I am more into article writing. I have a wordpress.com account and found it useful to create posts through my phone because I am always on the go compared to writing in my laptop where my home internet really sucks. So I recently found out that GoDaddy has this Managed WordPress product and I am contemplating if I should take that route.

I need some opinions and suggestions here. The purpose of my site is I can share my experiences through writing and maybe be able to put some paying ads into it as a little way to earn. So can someone please point me to the right direction.

Should I stick with building my website (www.sandtrekkers.com) through the website builder GoDaddy? Or should I take their offer and move my account into a Managed WordPress product? Is anyone familiar about this product? Is this the same as being able to post through the mobile app?

Please please please I need some help. I have placed my site on hold and have not placed any new content because I am stuck at this crossroad. Please remember I am not techie and I think a “What you see is what you get” type of software/format is the best way for me to go.

Thank you very much and hoping to hear from anyone soon.

    Cheers,
    josezaragoza

We can’t really offer specific hosting recommendations beyond https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/ here, otherwise those threads can get very spammy, but we can offer some general advice.

First of all, if you’re happy on WordPress.com, there’s no reason to leave, it’s no crime to stay there.

Basically, you have to look at these things from the question of “How much work do you want to do?”

It sounds like you have already decided that using GoDaddy’s website builder is more work than simply writing articles with WordPress, and that’s a fair assessment. Sometimes we all just want to write. ??

On WordPress.com, they take care of all of the technical things for you, so you just write and maybe tweak a few settings.

With Managed WordPress hosting, they also take care of the vast majority of technical things, but there is usually a greater number of settings that you’re responsible for than you would have on WordPress.com (mostly due to the limited-by-design nature of WordPress.com).

There is also the not-Managed-WordPress-hosting (Shared, VPS, Cloud, Dedicated, etc) where you’re in charge of everything (except the server configuration and server management if you’re on Shared).

It’s mostly about power vs. convenience. As you go up the list, you get more power, you can do more things, but you’ll also be responsible for all of those things, and maybe you don’t want that. Maybe you want to rule the internet with all the power you have amassed on a Dedicated server with a custom-built site, or maybe you just want to write articles.

So, that’s my very long-winded way of saying that you should make the choice that’s right for you. ??

Oh, one more thing, whatever you choose, always start out with a monthly plan (if available). That way, you can change your mind after a month if it isn’t working out.

    Hi James,

Thanks for the clear explanantion. Really cleared things up. I guess I have three more questions if you dont mind answering for me.

1.) If I use WordPress.com under the Free/Basic plan, can I put ads to earn from them? This is the advantage of having a Managed WordPress from GoDaddy where in I can earn through posting ads correct?

2.) I am actually committed to a year with GoDaddy now and if I wish to keep my domain, I will have to find a way to register it with wordpress.com. However that will be $99 a year for the premium. If I do that, will that allow me to put ads into my wordpress site to earn?

Basically, I want to write with the objective of sharing experience and earn through ads. Times are hard and earning a little extra by writing will be great.

3.) Last question, are you familiar with the GoDaddy Managed WordPress system? Am I able to post content while using my android wordpress app? That was the convenience I found with WordPress.com because I can write while I am away from my computer and just using my phone.

Thank you very much and looking forwars to your response.

    1. The only advertising program that WordPress.com allows is https://wordads.co whereas with www.ads-software.com, you can run any advertising you’re willing to setup.

    2. Paying for the Premium or Business plans still won’t get you around WordPress.com’s advertising restriction.

    3. I’m not familiar with GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting, but the mobile apps are designed to work with all WordPress installations.

    Disclosure: I work for GoDaddy.

@james, all your information is spot-on.

@josezaragoza (and James, by reference, I suppose :-)), happy to answer any questions you have about our Managed WordPress (MWP) plans; they strongly support ads and mobile publishing. Feel free to drop me a line at ccarfi [at] godaddy [dot] com.

@james thanks for really helping me out. At least I understand things a little more clearly now.

@ccarfi thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my thread. I sent you an email which I hope will help me make a sound decision and proceed with it so I dont waste money by allowing my site to be stagnant.

Thank you very much again guys.

    You’re welcome!

    Happy to help.

Hi Jose! Per our email exchange, just wanted to document here that the Android app for WordPress worked fine with my self-hosted site that’s running on GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress service. No issues for me at all.

    Have a good weekend…

Hi guys, I had a blog on blogger which I got a custom domain from godaddy and it was working fine not untill I decided to move to WordPress and it needed a hosting platform so I also got the managed WordPress hosting from same godaddy, and after installing it I clicked on the manage button which now took me to wp-admin page, so now I needed to import my blog from blogger to WordPress so I had to install a plug in and that was where the issue started from, it started loading the website instead of the wp-admin. Whatever I do ever since it loads the site and doesn’t load the wp-admin again. I had to remove the custom domain from blogger and also deleted the blog, and removed the all ip addresses that was pointed to blogger but all to no avail. Pls I need help on this. Tnx

Hi guys, got a domain and managed WordPress hosting from godaddy, I was only able to load the wp-admin once and after then when I load it shows error (www.soundlypeople.com). Seems I tampered with my DNS settings. Check below to see if my setting are fine, I just need to get to wp-admin so I can commence with design.

    A (Host)

    @ 54.84.104.245 (default)
@ 184.168.47.225 (I added this one, don’t know if it’s suppose to be here)

    C NAMES (Aliases)

    Email email.secureserver.net
    Ftp @
    Www @ (pointed to soundlypeople.com)

    MX (Mailexchanes)
    @ mailstore1.secureserver.net
    @ smtp.secureserver.net

    NS (Name Servers)

    @ NS55.Domaincontrol.com
    @ ns56.domaincontrol.com

That’s how the settings are. Pls need help. Tnx

Hello guys, i purchased a domain from godaddy then i purchased managed with WordPress so i can make a website with my own domain name then i want to show Google ads on it so can anyone tell me the procedure to do that.

    Hello Guyss…

I have a problem, one of my clients is experiencing the following:

After Activating GODADDY WORDPRESS MANAGED HOSTING. (which I may say is extremely fast, this was a surprise for me)

The Issue is CANT ACCESS the website via “WORDPRESS MOBILE APP”

Any pointers here, I was on the phone with support and the guy suggested a Plugin but I think he is wrong as he recomended a WP Touch plugin… which is for setting the site mobile…

    Anyway help will be appreciated.

    Best Regards

    Luis F
