    A good addition to the 404 monitor would be to track removed pages on the site and send a 410 to visitors. It’s better semantics and better SEO: https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-404-status/254429/.

    I would also argue that it’s better to put this functionality into the redirection manager than the 404 monitor, because it tracks (re)moved pages just like the former does so admins who want to send 410 for intentional removals and 301 for intentional moves can turn on just this one module.

    When you trash a post in the backend, our plugin notifies you to set a redirect for it. You can set a 410 redirect using that option for the removed post. We don’t create a 410 redirect automatically because users might want to redirect the removed post to a related post.?
