• it would be nice in future versions of WP to have a comment at the top of every file to explain what the purpose of the file is in the overall context of WP. Sometimes it’s not so hard to figure out, but others times it is kind of hard.
In general, there isn’t much commenting at all in WP — more commenting would, I think, encourage more users to attempt modifications which would ultimately help development of WP.

  • That could be a double-edged sword. Initially I didn’t tweak the files because I didn’t know what they did and consequently didn’t break things and come running here for help. As I became more PHP savey I didn’t need the comments. Just my 2 cents (and we know what that is worth today)

true, might be best to keep things self-selecting? Although I think people like myself who are inclined to hack things are going to do it one way or another, and I’d be less likely to break things in the process if there were more comments.
on the other hand I’m looking at some files again and there are a decent amount of comments, so I’ll back off slightly.

I would very much recommend that if you want to play, and anticipate breakage (or even if you don’t because it will still happen), then set up a testblog.
    Wonderful things are testblogs ??
