I have the story

What i want it to look like is

the cat went in the barn > MORE…

I am looking for the code.. like for example author – <?php the_author(); ?>

What would be a more link for a story?

In the post writing window, on the Visual tab, it is the 4th button from the right, button looks like two small white rectangles with a dotted line between them.

On the HTML tab, it is the “more” button.

Put your cursor where you want the “more” link to appear and click the button, depending upon which tab you are on.

I’m looking for the code itself. What i have is a page where the posts are coming like another archive page.. And I am looking for the php code itself.

Are you using the loop? because there is also
<?php the_excerpt(); ?>

I don’t think the more link will work outside of the loop.

im editing a default template. say for example index.php I need the code that you put in there for more.. but i also am looking for a word limit too.

im actually putting the code inside a index.php page so it would have to work with a limit from inside there.

It sounds as if you are combining the ideas of the more tag and the excerpt. You can set the number of characters that display in the excerpt. The more tag is inserted manually, not automatically.

that may work.. See i just want to change the limit on one page only.. and i just want to do it automatically.. and i was really looking for code that i code edit right into the one and only index page. This may work..
