More numbers than widgets in sidebar

  • Hi, I’ve got something strange going on. Today I noticed the total number of positions for widgets in the sidebar, is larger than the actual widgets displayed in the sidebar itself. Normally this amount of numbers/positions should be equal to the number of widgets actually installed.

    I removed all disabled widgets, but no difference. I really have no clue what to do about this. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Many themes have a limit to the number of widgets in a widget area…review with theme dev. If not a theme issue, reset widget area by:

    A) Take note of widget locations. Drag all widgets to inactive. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
    B) Switch to default unedited theme. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
    C) Switch back to your theme. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
    D) Drag widgets back. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.

    If not that, remove one widget at a time to find an offending one.

    where do you get that number from?

    if this is something in the dashboard, can you provide a screenshot?

    what theme are you working with?

    Sorry, I forgot to mention it’s in the admin panel, under the options for widgets. If you install or edit a widget, you can choose a number for the position. The count of those numbers are larger than the actual widgets. I noticed the dashboard also displays more widgets than actually installed on the line how many widgets were installed.

    Problem solved! I tried to switch to the default theme, there the widget count was normal. After that, I activated my own theme again en voila, the widget count is back to normal! If I knew before it would be that simple… Something to keep in mind in case something goes wrong again. Thanks for the help anyway!

    That’s going to be very theme-specific functionality. What theme are you using?

    DFBlog, never had this issue before. Guess some sticky widgets who wouldn’t really go away after removing… ??
