• Before domain mapping became part of the core software, I used the common Domain Mapping plugin. I wanted to get off that because it meant having to manually map rather than just enter the domain in the site settings, so I removed it properly and all is well.

HOWEVER, there is apparently now no way to map more than one domain to a site. I can park it as an alias in cPanel, add forwarding, etc.., but it all comes up to the typical blog not found page talking about registrations not being allowed.

I do NOT want to forward it from the registrar, with or without masking, because some clients with multiple domains are still using the old or secondary ones that would need to continue to be forwarded to their respective addresses on the primary domains.

I find it hard to believe I’m the only one who has this problem, but I can’t find anything online except a closed thread here that didn’t make any sense to me. The data center techs are stumped as well, even having tried various DNS and other hacks.

    Does anyone know the fix?

  • I haven’t tried either of these on a multisite as I just do redirects to avoid duplicate content SEO issues but I’d give these both a try if I wasn’t concerned about the dup issue…

Might not be what you need but might give you a lead to what will work for you.

I have done masking and forwarding before for a few instances but it’s been years since I needed that and I think my provider at that time offered 301 and 302 redirections for those.

Also, you might want to look at running your old mapping plugin again for those instances where you need its features but lean on the built-in mapping normally. If I remember right, during the transition to the new built-in mapping both methods worked so I’d think they probably still do.
