• Hey there. What do you guys do for this? I’ve recently struggled my way into installing a subdomain multisite onto my localhost, in XAMPP, but now, as the folder has to be in the root domain, the htdocs subfolder of the XAMPP folder, I believe it won’t be possible to have another domain with subdomains in this XAMPP installation and indeed in my whole PC.

I leave this question in the open for you, in case you have a better solution than I. In the next few days I’ll use this thread to explore my options.

    Possible paths.

    1. An install of WAMP in order to have two subdomain empires. But I’ve heard it’s incompatible with XAMPP.

    2. Learning the multi-domain plugin from WPMUDEV. Hopefully it does what it says it does, allow you to map a subdomain of one domain, easily and seamlessly into another domain. Right now not a clue how this works and sounds too good to be true.

    3. Hope someone’s got a better option, lol.

Also, I’ll use this thread to explore if I can have subdirector installations inside the same XAMPP. It’ll look messy, because the subdirectory’s folder would be sitting right next to the ones of my subdomain folder, so I’ll leave he question open to see what you think.

  • Like I said in the other thread, I have a half a dozen separate subdirectory install running locally, all in separate folders, all under /var/www/html/.
