• I updated to 3.7 a couple of months ago and most of the functions stopped working except for “Post”. Every time I clicked on one of the options such as “Update” or “Plugins”, it would just say page not found. Finally now looking into this…I tried deactivating all my plugins via FTP. That didn’t work, just kept getting this error message:

W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/janice15/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/janice15/public_html/wp-content/db.php.W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/janice15/public_html/wp-content/object-cache.php.

Help?! I can’t even update to 3.8 since the “Update” button isn’t working in my admin area.

  • Deactivating plugins doesnt help sometimes. So navigate to /wp-content folder via FTP and rename plugins folder to plugins.tmp or something. basically move everything inside the folder to somewhere else temporarily and then try accessing.
also, since you are comfortable with FTP, have you tried a manual update? its quite simple actually, just dont override your wp-config.php file. and handpick and upload stuff in /wp-content folder.

    Thanks shadez.

I tried renaming the plugins folder to plugins.tmp, plugins.deactivate. Still can’t access most of the menu options from the admin area…

I’m reluctant to try to manually update to 3.8 because I’m really not that comfortable with FTP haha. Also I’m not sure if updating would fix the problem or not since it was the last update that broke it (might have been my fault because I didn’t deactivate the plugins before I updated to 3.7)

Also, even though I can’t seem to be able to deactivate my plugins, some of them don’t seem to be working anyway. For example, the image right click protection plugin is not working when I go to my site since I can now right click and save an image.

Is it possible that it’s a theme issue? What should I try next besides manually updating to 3.8?

    Thank you!

aah ok sorry.. i didnt read the error reports properly.
try doing whats mentioned in the error message, as in, move or delete wp-content/advanced-cache.php, wp-content/db.php and object-cache.php files.

to be on the safer side, switch to default theme – twentyfourteen or twentythirteen. and also let the /wp-content/plugins folder be empty for now.

    now try the automatic update…
