I’m using a video thumbnail slider, and while on mobile you can use touch to drag the thumbnails to advance the selection of videos (along with arrow buttons), it won’t let you use the mouse on desktop to click and drag that part of the slider. It only works by using arrow buttons or arrow keys.

In the documentation, it says, “You can switch slides by a [horizontal/vertical] mouse drag or touch action.”

So how come mouse drag (click + hold + move left/right) doesn’t work?

    Hi @mattgraffdesign!

I have checked the slider on the linked page, and the slide changing with drag interaction worked fine for me.

Is it possible, that you tried to drag the slide while the cursor was above the video? Since that way you are interacting with the YouTube video and not the slider, meaning that dragging won’t work in that case.

If you want to change slides via dragging, then you will need to move the cursor to an area which is outside of the area of the YouTube video and start dragging it there.

    Best regards,
    Laszlo.

Okay so I double-checked and realize my issue both persists and there’s two ways to drag which explains our different results.

The first is the main video section (above) you can grab the arrow region and either click it or drag it. The second is the thumbnail timeline (below) where you can also click the arrow. However, it only allows you to drag those on mobile. I tried with a few browsers and on desktop it won’t let you drag the thumbnails. You can only click on the arrow or click on the individual thumbnail to play that video. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t allow the same function across both devices unless there’s some odd setting turned on/off that I’m unaware of.

    Hi @mattgraffdesign!

I’m sorry, but currently we don’t have an option to change this behavior. So thumbnails can only be dragged on tablet and mobile devices, but not on desktop. While slides can be dragged on desktop too.
But I have added your request to our to-do list, and hopefully the senior developer will be able to create a feature for this in the future!

That’s unfortunate. Thanks for your help.

Just a thought, is it possible (in the meantime) to add that as a function through a CSS script?

Sadly this subject is more complex, so there isn’t a simple code, that could help you with the wanted functionality.
