    Hi,

I installed WP 3.0 in a directory called “main” but now want to transfer it to the root. The documentation in the wp codex doesn’t appear to include 3.0.

I’ve copied all my files into the root. What’s the next step? Is it to change the URIs? This part of the codex instructions is making me apprehensive – “<< not WP3 compatible.”

Can someone please help? Many thanks in advance.

  • Hi

I also wondering about this. I want to move my whole solution up to root. I’ve made my wordpress 3.0 blog to a static frontpage because I want a huge amount of pages instead of blog post. So all in all I turned my wordpress 3.0 into a huge website. I also have plugins like NextGen Gallery and others. Further I also have a lot of text widgets where some of them are links pointing to specific areas.

Do I have to change all my paths manually after I have moved my solution to root? Or must I do it in the database afterwards? And what about moving the whole thing to root? I’m anxious if I have to work the whole weekend to fix all links because there is a lot of them. What about wordpress 3.0 and >> Settings >> General settings and WordPress URL…. will that affect my permalink settings?

Finally, if someone had success to move their wordpress 3.0 site from a subfolder to root please give your best advices…

    Thanks in advance

    /Andy

Thanks ipstenu. That was actually the page I was looking at but the line << not WP3 compatible in steps 4 & 5 for Moving WordPress Within Your Site is what threw me off. Does that mean that this tutorial isn’t appropriate for WP 3.0?

I’ve already copied over all my files to the root and can access the website from there, but not the wp control panel. Will updating the URIs enable me to access the control panel from the websitename.com/wp-login.php instead of websitename.com/main/wp-login.php?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I just want to make sure I don’t lose the website or anything. Many thanks for your help.

I find that (revision) a little confusing myself, especially in the absence of any visible explanation for the statement ( << not WP3 compatible ). Perhaps a mod could take a look at the edit and see if it needs a clarification or reversal.

My question would be – even after reading the the discussion – what exactly does this mean “<< not WP3 compatible”?

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Talk:Moving_WordPress

And will it result in user confusion when consulting the article – as has been already expressed above by jbmaca and Andy Hawkins?

I may be missing a critical point, but it (the edit) appears to be the result of a discussion surrounding disambiguation in the use of the terms “URI” and “URL”? Or perhaps I’m misinterpreting the discussion surrounding the edit..

    Thank you!
