• Hi everyone

I’m new to the whole WordPress thing, well websites in general, and have been trying to create a website on my own to use for my sports and fitness related activities. After reading a bunch of tutorials I settled on using WordPress as the content management system and managed to get it installed onto my home computer as a localhost install with something called XAMPP, as per the tutorials.
I installed a few plugins and found a free theme that I liked and have now also populated it with a a little bit of information about me.

I am also ready to turn it into a live website but I am not sure on what to do from here. I know I need a web host, so I’ve researched locally, i’m in Australia, and found a few website hosting companies. I am going to sign up for an account with https://www.digitalpacific.com.au but I have no idea how to transfer the site from my computer to an account with them.

Or does anyone here have experience with them and know how to transfer a local set to them?

Is there some sort of program I can use to automate this, or do I now have to start it all from scratch again?

Thankyou for any advice, it’s greatly appreciated.

  • You will also require a domain name for your site. To make things less complicated, I would suggest getting that at the same place where you get your hosting.

There are a number of ways to copy your local site to the live site. Have a read through this:

A search with your fave search engine for “WordPress local to live” will return many tutorials and videos.

There are also plugins that “automate” the process. This is one that I have used (for testing):

Thank you for the response 2ninerniner2.

I didn’t even factor in the need for a domain name, I’ll certainly register one at the same location.

Thanks for the link, I didn’t see that article when I had tried searching previously. The duplicator plugin sounds a lot easier based on my knowledge, so I’ll give that a go and see whether I can get it transferred.
