Move multisite subdomain to a new addon domain

  • Hello,
    I have a problem that I can’t seem to find a straight answer for and it’s been driving me crazy. I have been testing and editing a wordpress site as a subdomain at mjanich4.njanich.com. This website is setup as a subdomain to a wordpress multisite. Now I want to move it to a new domain that is setup as a single site and this new domain is an addon domain to the same hosting account.

    I tried exporting the files from my subdomain to the new domain but none of the plugins or design configurations transfered over. I then thought it would be as simple as copying all the files from my subdomain over to the new domain but I cannot find them anywhere.

    I am basically looking for a solution to transfer sub.domain.com to newdomain.com.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    If I understood correctly, you have a staging site on sub.olddomain.com, and want to move it to: newdomain.com, correct? If so, you can use a plugin called Duplicator (found here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicator/) to move your existing site and contents from subdomain to new domain.

    If sub.olddomain.com is part of a WordPress Network (also known as WordPress multisite) installation, the answer is a bit more tricky and depends on your web host, your web server, and so on.

    Yes that is correct, sub.olddomain.com is a part of a WordPress Network as well.

    I host on SiteGround and my plan allows for multiple websites to be hosted from it. I currently have the default landing page after installing wordpress on newdomain.com.
    I’m trying to find out how to transfer everything.

    Ok, in that case, the easiest way, at least in my mind, would be to install manually theme and plugins, and then do an export from the current site (sub.olddomain.com) and an import to the new one (newdomain.com).
