It seems not possible to arrange the notes panel. I wanted it further up, so it’s in my sight. Let me know if that can be changed (maybe in the code of priority).

    Howdy,

This seems to be a limitation in newer versions of WordPress (since Gutenberg). I don’t have to write the code to make the metabox drag-able or anything like that, WordPress just deals with metaboxes how it has been engineered to deal with them.

So in a Gutenberg environment, there appears to be no ability to drag any of the right hand side metaboxes (revisions, permalink, featured image etc… and any custom metaboxes like Notely) into the position you’d want. This is frankly frustrating and it’s another example of WordPress imposing user experience choices on us we may not want, and without any way to opt-out of them.

But if helps to know, it seems that any post type that uses the classic editor DOES let you drag it into any position you want, which is how it originally worked.

I’m about to start working on some tweaks to the plugin soon, and will look into possible options for prioritising position. I’ll include a new setting if it works.

    Hello Michael,

Thank you for the quick reply and your effort to program this nice plugin. Let’s hope at one point this option will work.

    No worries.

So it turns out there is no way around this. WordPress have decreed that the current iteration of sidebar items we see when editing/creating must take precedence, regardless of if the user wants it that way or not. I absolutely would not be surprised if I wake up one day to discover they completely remove the ability to add anything into that area at all.

Anyhoo, you message prompted me to look into this and also take the time to improve the plugin, and so I thank you for that.

If you update the plugin now you’ll see some new settings:

    • Default notes box position
    • Font style
    • Notes box height
    • Notes box text size

I know this wasn’t want you hoped for, but if there’s anything else, you know how to find me.

    Have a great day.

    Hello Michael,

Thank you for the quick update. I will continue to use your plugin – there is nothing else right now I know of. Initially I was looking for a note taking spot where I can add all the topics that I want to write for a post – like a table of contents.

I also appreciate your quick responses to my inquiry.

I add my vote for the flexibility to do this. If I could work out where to comment directly to WP, I would definitely be doing that!

    Cate
