  • That’s possible (just as most things in this world are), but not simple or easy for the uninitiated.

If you want to have just two columns, you could easily create a custom menu, use a widget to display the custom menu in the right sidebar, and perhaps move the right sidebar to the left if you absolutely want the menu on the left. Of course, you’ll need to deactivate the top menu.

But it’s more complicated if you want three columns: top menu moved to left column, content in middle, and right sidebar. Here you’ll first need to create space for the left menu by resizing and moving the content area. Next, you’ll move and properly position the top menu inside the newly created left column. Finally, you’ll need to turn the horizontal menu into a vertical one and the drop down menu into a slide-out one.

I’m sure there are variations of Twenty Twelve themes out there with three columns. If you can find one of these, you could just use the custom menu trick mentioned earlier, and just drop it into the left menu.

So to answer your question, yes, it’s certainly possible, but not a point-and-click configuration option, and most folks don’t have the time to do all that work for you in a free forum like this (unless someone out there has done it already and want to share).
