Moved from localhost to live and broke my site

Ok. But how do I do that now? I can’t open my site locally either. I get a “page not found” page when I try to open localhost/mysite/wordpress.

I added the missing jetpack.php file to my child theme folder and now I get this message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘function’ (T_FUNCTION) in /home3/username/public_html/wp-content/themes/zlchild/inc/jetpack.php on line 1

I’ve read on other posts to delete the theme (parent?) folder and reinstall the theme to fix this error, but how would that get me all the work I’ve done to the child?

Sorry I didn’t update.

I went to a WordPress Meetup and the folks there helped me fix it. I think all I did was delete and re-install jetpack.

I am a total WP novice and also had my site ‘break’ when I moved it from one server to another using FTP. The hosting guys told me to go into cPanel and then change the URL in the database which resolved the problem of not being able to retrieve the site at all. Sorry that this isn’t a very detailed answer – just thought it might help send you in the right direction markyclay.
