We recently moved hosts, everything is working great except the podcasts — whenever we try to play them, we get 404:

HTTP load failed with status 404. Load of media resource https://[site]/podcast-player/16553/[filename].mp3?_=1 failed

Any thoughts / things to check? I’ve disabled / re-enabled the plugin, reset permalinks, etc, and it’s still giving fits. Any help is appreciated.

What hosting provider did you move to? We know of specific issues with some hosts (WPEngine in particular) that have an NGINX exception that has to be applied for the podcast-download and podcast-player URLs.

Thanks – i found that link after I posted, and am working with the host now (InMotion Hosting, for what it’s worth).

on the rules — is there merit to the JanThiel’s comment / post with a different set of rules (rewrites) mentioned here? https://github.com/TheCraigHewitt/Seriously-Simple-Podcasting/issues/131

    Hi Tim

The original nginx rules were given to us by WPEngine when this issue first came to light. As one of the biggest WP managed hosts we trusted their knowledge of web servers over our own.

That being said, both options are viable solutions. May I suggest that you communicate with InMotion Hosting and ask their opinion on the matter. I, in the meantime, will contact WPEngine and ask them.

If we gather a consensus that the second option is a better solution, I will arrange to have the help document updated.

    Regards
