• Hi all,

    I moved my hosting yesterday (and transfered my domain name to the new host). I have my main domain (https://www.lukeseager.com) and a bunch of subdomains (spidr.lukeseager.com, beats.lukeseager.com and blog.lukeseager.com). All of these (except for beats subdomain) run their own wordpress install. The beats subdomain links to my bandcamp page (or should).

    Anyway, if you go to lukeseager.com my home page seems to work fine, the PHP pulls in the latest posts from 2 categories and it’s all fine and dandy. But if you click on any link to go to any other page on the site it says the page cannot be found. Even though int he WP backend all of my pages (vision & works) and there and the premalink to that page is correct.

    I followed a bunch of tutorials, exporting the database and importing it into the new host, changing the wp-config file to the correct log-ins and passwords as well as copying everything from my original server to the new one.

    But for some reason my single post pages and pages themselves don’t want to show up. Also, non of my subdomains are working (I created new subdomains on the new hosts cPanel. But I think they might just need a bit of time to propagate?).

    Any help you have would be amazing!
    Thanks.

  • For only the home page working – it could be your rewrite rules.

    1. Go to the backend, and go the ‘Settings -> Permalinks’. Check that there is no message on the page telling you that WP is unable to write to ‘.htaccess’. If there is, you need to make that file writable;
    2. Set the Permalink structure to ‘Default’, save, reload your homepage and then try your site;
    3. If that works, set the Permalink structure ‘Day and name’, save, reload your homepage and try;
    4. If that works, set the Permalink structure to what ever it was that you had before, save, reload your homepage and try. Fingers crossed, flushing the rules will have fixed that problem

    As for you Sub-domains – you could well be right that you need to wait for propagation. DNS does take a bit of time, but exactly what are you doing wiht them? I assume that you have a DNS entry that points to the correct (your new) IP address for each, and that you are using a Multisite install?

    Thank you for the reply, it was very helpful.

    But for some reason (I literally did nothing at all) everything started working! First my pages displayed, then after a couple of minutes my subdomains kicked in. Just waiting for bandcamp to pick up my last domain and I’m all good.

    Moral of the story? If this happens to you just give it some time, a day at most I’d say ??

    I’d say up to 48 hours, depending on what the TTL on your DNS is. Glad it’s all working though ??
