I moved to a new host around the end of November and kept my domain the same. I was pretty sure I had transferred my blog correctly as everything showed up right. Today I decided to upgrade to 2.7 and when I was comparing the wp-config-sample.php file in the new version to the one I was currently using I found that I still had all the info from my last host in my working wp-config.php. I have no idea how this could be working but I figured that I probably shouldn’t keep it that way. I went through the upgrade process, changed to the newer wp-config file, and updated the info inside of it. Afterwards I found that all the posts I made since I had moved my site were gone. I reverted to my backups that I had just made, with the outdated wp-config, and they were back again.

I’m pretty confused to say the least. I still have everything on my old host up as I have two other domains that I still have to transfer over. Is my blog, even though it’s at the new host, still using my old host? The blog is at https://www.joshmcneill.com/blog

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • It sounds like it is still connecting to the database on your old site; although I’m not sure how it could do that. Are you sure you are connecting to a database at your old host…it could be that you have two databases set-up at your new host.

I definitely have only one database set up at my new host. The database name is different by one extra character on the new host and I had to use an actual address for DB_HOST to get the blog to work on my old host. Maybe, since I’m using that address, it still checks back there for everything? I know very little about the inner workings of all this. I just follow the instructions and hope for the best.

I think I fixed my issue. For anyone that runs into the same problem, I made a backup of the database from my old host, updated the wp-config.php on my new host, and then imported the database that I just backed up. Apparently using an actual address instead of “localhost” caused WordPress to use my old host for my SQL database even though everything else was actually on the new host.
