• Hello,

I have created a website with a blog at https://immfinancial.com. I have also created mirror site of this site at https://es.immfinancial.com. This is a Spanish version of the site and it works just fine in the temporary location that it is in right now.

What I want to do is move it to https://immfinancial.com/es and I have created the folder to move it to. Then I copied the files from https://es.immfinancial.com to https://immfinancial.com/es.

I then logged in to https://es.immfinancial.com and changed the settings for the permalinks to https://immfinancial.com/es. Next I logged in to the new location to verify all is working. I then logged in to the main https://immfinancial.com site to change the button I have for switching languages to reflect the new home page for the Spanish version.

I then tested the link and it worked just fine.

Here is the problem: When I went to the https://immfinancial.com/es landing page it worked just fine, but when I clicked on a link to one of the Spanish page links on the menu of that page, it re-directed me to the landing page on https://immfinancial.com.

I went back into the dashboard of the Spanish version and the page links are fine. The permalinks on the pages were https://immfinancial.com/es/”page name” and if I put that address in the browser, it re-directs me to the home page.

I have since put the links from the main site back to the sub-domain so the site is functioning, but I want to re-initialize the site at the ../es location and have the links that are in that folder direct visitors to the pages in that folder.

Note: I have set up in my 404 file to redirect to the home page to resolve the bad links I will have now that I have re-done the site as opposed to doing a separate re-direct for each page had as I have many links out there that I do not want to loose due to the changes in the file names.

Question: What do I need to modify in the set up so that I can have the Spanish version at https://immfinancial.com/es and the links on that page work properly? I really do not want to leave the Spanish version on the sub-domain if I do not have to.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Wade

  • Have you tried flushing the rewrite rules by saving the permalinks on immfinancial.com/es (/wp-admin/options-permalink.php)?

I am not sure what you mean by flushing the rewrite rules but I did change both WordPress address (URL) and Site address (URL) to https://immfinancial.com/es.

Go to /wp-admin/options-permalink.php and click “Save Changes” (WordPress will take care of the rest).

At the risk of seeming stupid, I want to confirm what you are saying.

You are saying to log in to the Spanish version, make the changes in the general settings to reflect https://immfinancial.com/es, then save.

Then log into my hosting, go to the /wp-admin/options-permalink.php under https://immfinancial.com/es, open it and then save it without any further changes?

    Please confirm or clarify.

    Thank you.

Hi Wade, I’m saying try re-saving the permalinks on the spanish site (/wp-admin/options-permalink.php).

My suspicion is that the rewrite rules used the old subdomain URL so once WordPress generates new rewrite rules the links will start working again.

I did exactly as suggested, and saved the file twice to be sure, then tried it from 3 different browsers just to see if there was a browser issue on my end and it still does the exact same thing.

If you go to https://immfinancial.com and then click the Espa?ol link it will bring you to https://immfinancial.com/es which will work. If you click any of the hyperlinks you will be directed to https://immfinancial.com, not the page that is linked to the menu tab.
I tried this with the menu tabs as well as the links to articles and categories.

I have left everything in place for the moment if you wish to see what is happening yourself.

Do you have any other thoughts?

    Thank you,

    Wade

I just went to the site and all the /es links are working for me (for example, I can access immfinancial.com/es/tag/factoring-definicion/).

Can you check and verify if it’s working for you or not?

They are working now because I have deleted the old files at https://immfinancial.com/es and installed a new on on the https://immfinancial.com/es url. I am moving the pages and text manually right now. It was the only solution I could think of to fix it. One I have finished copying everything from the sub domain I will shut it down.

Thank you for your help though, I do appreciate you taking the time to look it over.

    Regards,

    Wade
