I just migrated all folders from Hostgator (HOST1) to Bluehost (HOST2), I also make sure I updated the wp-config with new database name and username. I also updated the .htaccess according to multisite with wildcard dns. My main domain is working but the subdomains aren’t. when I go to a subdomain.maindomain.com I get a 404 error. I was wondering what can I do at this point? note: I am keeping the same domains just pointing it to a different server.
    Thank you,

What does the 404 look like?

from the Network Admin / Dashboard and if I go to visit site: Site

So far I am able to see all sites from my dashboard/network admin, although I just created a new site and it is not populating either.

Your answer is “The 404 looks like hosts holding page”

Seriously ?? What does it look like? A hosts landing page. Other possible answers are “A WP 404 page.” or “Nothing, it’s a white screen” or even “A folder listing.” or “A cpanel holding page.”

Without a URL, we have to ask what you’re seeing, so please do try to describe things ??

So why? You did not properly set up the subdomains at your host. Please ask them how to do it right.

It is just text: 404: File Not Found.
I setup a wildcard to use it for subdomains.

I just spoke to Bluehost and they said their servers are not configured to offer dynamic DNS.

There you go. You need to manually make subdomains and point them to where WP is installed.

FWIW when I go to https://chris.visualupload.net/ I get a BlueHost landing page

Solved!! Thank you so much for your help. Just like you said, I had to manually create a subdomain and point it to the main installation of wordpress public_html/. Apparently Bluehost does not support dynamic wildcard DNS.
