moving a widget

Hello, I’m pretty new to widgets in WordPress, but I have read some documentation, but haven’t found a specific answer.

I’m trying to put an existing widget on my home page in a specific area. I can’t see the widget show up, and I don’t see how to specifically move it to where i would like it on the home page.

What is the easiest way to move it where I would like? How does one create an additional ‘widget area’ on my home page, and assign it a specific area to show up?
