Hi, I recently did my website with www.ads-software.com and now want to do my dad’s business website. The problem is that he did his website with Frontpage and his host is Imaginet. I want to move his website from Frontpage to WordPress, but I have no idea how to do this. I would prefer starting from scratch, but the domain name would have to stay the same. Is there an easy way to move his website to www.ads-software.com? Any steps or advice will be appreciated. TIA. Juliana.

  • You need to redo the website completely. Of course you can take over textual and pictorial content – but only by hand.

An import of Frontpage-based websites is not possible. This very old software creates too broken code and offers no possibilities in this regard.

Against this background, I would recommend the following procedure:
Find a hoster (maybe the same one as your own website). Install a fresh WordPress, find a suitable theme and then enter the content of the website.

Thanks for the help! My concern is the domain name. I definitely want to redo the website from scratch. I have all the pictures, so I can upload that content seperately. I want to install www.ads-software.com with GoDaddy as the host (same as my website). However, will I be able to use that same domain name? He had his business under this name for a long time, so it wouldn’t be viable to create a new domain name. Should I first “deactivate” Frontpage (if that’s even possible), then switch his website to the new host and from there install WordPress? How do I get rid of Frontpage without losing the domain name? I really appreciate the help!

Domains can also be moved between hosters. To proceed, contact your new hoster. We here at WordPress can not give any information about this because it is not a task of WordPress.

From the project flow you could certainly prepare the new website under a pseudo domain of your new hoster and only when everything is ready with the transfer of the domain the new website live.

    Hi,

Yes, you can use the same domain name. Basically you can develop your WP site with a temporary domain name in a new hosting provider. After the site done, you can then contact your new hosting provider for the domain transition process (this scope is out of WP). You can then consult this document https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/changing-the-site-url/ after the domain transition done, or perhaps your new hosting provider can do this for you too.
