• I’d like to move my blog from https://thruxton.yogaha.com to https://thruxtoncafe.com. These are both with the same ISP so I presume these different domains are ‘ON THE EXISTNG SERVER’. I have read what seem to be the main items on the forum about doing this, (codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress and codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL plus others), however I keep running into issues which prevent me from getting the job done so I’d appreciate some assistance with this. I can edit files using phpAdmin and the file manager. I did a backup of the whole database.

    1. Point 8 says “8.Move your WordPress core files to the new location” – but I don’t know HOW
    2. I exported the database into a CSV file and could run a replace on the URLs but then what do I do with it?

    Thanks, John.

  • Discuss with your host how to point the new domain to your current install then update wp-config.php is all that should be needed to do this task, (it will help to have redirect rules in place in .htaccess. so anyone with an old link will get back to you.)

Thanks SwansonPhotos, That’s an interesting approach and seems straightforward enough, although I’m not sure why it doesn’t get a mention as an option in the codex info? I think I can set up the redirect myself without any problems but wanted to check the .htaccess & wpconfig edits (I presume these are both on the new domain https://thruxtoncafe.com) –

    1. Would the .htaccess edit be adding a line saying “redirect /[not sure what to put here, it’s the root directory of https://thruxtoncafe.com ] https://thruxton.yogaha.com”
    2. What would I edit in the wpconfig?

    Thanks, John.
