Moving Blog to a New Domain Address on the Same Web Server
-
Hello.
I have a question regarding moving a blog within a web hosting server. I have read the info at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress but I’m a bit confused as to what method I should use.
Here is the situation:
I need to move my blog to a new domain on the same web hosting server, i.e. move it from https://www.site1.com/blog to https://www.site2.com/blog.
From what I’ve read at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress I think I should use the method described under the “Moving WordPress Within Your Site” title. If this is the case, I find these instructions to be a bit confusing (sorry, I’m not a pro at this.) In particular, I’m confused by step 10. “If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file, which should be in the same directory as the main index.php file.” Can somebody explain this a bit more clearly?
Also, step 13 states “Existing image/media links uploaded media will refer to the old folder and must be updated with the new location.” How is this accomplished?
I apologize if I am missing the boat here and worse-case scenario, I guess I could re-build the blog from scratch, but I’d really like to avoid that!
Thank you for your time and consideration.
