• I’ve tried several different ways of doing this and none of them are working for me. I’ve also searched here, but maybe I’m not using the right terms to find what I need.
I want to move my pastor’s blog from it’s current home – https://justifiedbygrace.com/byron to a new home and not lose everything that he has put into it so far. The new home is to be https://byron-harvey.com
I have been able to make a copy of the database from the current site and create a new datbase on the new site and fill it with the sql file. No problem with that.
But then what do I put in the root directory? A new install of WP? A copy of what is on the current site?
A new install has tried to create a new database. A copy of the current site works for the home page, but any link sends me back to the old(current) site. And the admin login does not work at all.
I’m probably missing something very simple again, but at this point, I’m slightly frustrated and willing to take my wife’s advice and ask for help.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for this please?
    Peace,
    Paul

You copy all of the files over, exactly as they are in the old site, with the exception that you have to change the database settings in wp-config.php.

Thank you! I have now gotten everything moved and working correctly. It turns out I was making two mistakes.
I hadn’t changed the wp-config.php settings, and I hadn’t thought to use phpMyAdmin to change settings in the database itself which had the site url correct but home wrong, as well as a couple of other settings that had the old address in them.
So thanks to your advice and the advice podz gave the person having a very similar question, I was able to complete this project this morning.
    Much thanks indeed!
    Peace,
    Paul
