• Hi.

I have a blog on wordpress.com. I wish to create my own website on Dreamhost, and to use www.ads-software.com to build it.

I wish to know – is it possible to “copy-paste” my entire blog to my new website? I have more than 100 pages and posts, and more than 100 pictures. I would like to keep everything “as it is”, and move it to a new website with a new URL. Can it be done? And if so – How?

I also wish to redirect anyone who tries to reach my blog on wordpress.com to my new website, so that links from other websites to my blog will remain relevant and will lead eventually to my website. Again – can it be done? And if so – How?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

  • You can export the content of your.com site and import it to your.org site via the Tools menu. As for the redirect, you would need to pay a fee to wordpress.com to get them to set up a redirect.

    Thanks for the answer.

Does export and import include media objects, or only links to their current location on wordpress.com?

If I choose to pay for the redirect – doyou know how do I do it?

Importing media object can be problematic, so it would be safer to assume that they wouldn’t be imported correctly and that you have to re-upload them. That said, you could find that they import without a hitch.

With regards to sorting out redirection, you’ll need to have a word with the folks over at wordpress.com.
