• I’m attempting to move to a new web host, but the domain will stay the same.

However, in my test run tonight, I found that nothing in my media library was linked–word press was saying that it could not locate the file. I checked, it’s there, but it seems the link was broken.

I’m guessing this was user error on my part, but I can’t figure out what I did wrong. These were my steps:

    1. Downloaded a copy of the database from the current server
    2. Imported the database copy to the new server
    3. Downloaded all of the web files (HTML/PHP/etc) from the current server
    4. Uploaded all of the web files to the new server

With some minor changes to the wp-settings, the site was up, but most of the pictures were not. ?? I reverted back to the current server for the moment.

  • Try using a plugin like WP Clone to clone your entire site.

From the old install, install the plugin and create a clone image thing and from your new site get a new WordPress install ready with the WP Clone plugin and it should clone your entire problems. You might have some link rel issues but the rest should be fine.

That plugin looks pretty good, but our site is too large, unfortunately for the plugin.

    Thanks for the idea though!
