Moving images back from S3 to regular hosting
-
I administrate a magazine with more than 4,500 posts and almost 17,000 images. A few months ago we opted to move the images to AWS S3 and use Cloudfront as a CDN to gain performance. However, the cost of AWS is killing us. We don’t have enough sponsors so I need to reduce costs.
I would like to re-host the images on our server.
I suspect that all images are still on our server. At least the images of the last articles are there.
Making the move to AWS involved the combination of several plug-ins:
- ShortPixel Image Optimizer
- WP Offload Media Lite
- W3 Total Cache
- reGenerate Thumbnails – advanced
What I want to do is tell WP to use the server images again and stop showing the CDN images.
My fear is that when removing the OffLoad Media plugin URLs will break.
I wish I could make a transition as notorious as possible.
Has anyone had a similar experience? What do you advise me to do?
