• I’ve been running WP on my own server for almost 3 years. Recently I built a new server to move all of my sites to.

Then my existing WP installation broke. It still runs but posting a new entry doesn’t work. The PHP page which comes upafter submit is blank. The blog is still viewable, just not postable, so than kinda negates the purpose, eh?

(I swear, computers KNOW when you start something like that, and break accordingly.)

I’ve reviewed the various instructions for moving/upgrading a WP installation, and nothing quite seems to allpy to what I want to do, which is install the latest WP on the new server, move the DB, and then connect the 2. I’ve done the installation and the export/import, but for the life of me, i can’t figure out how to connect the new WP to the DB.

Any help would be appreciated. i haven’t blogged in a monthand I’m getting blooger’s buildup. ??

    Thanks!

  • I may have incorrectly understood you, because in my eyes the matter is very simple :

As long as both your wordpress files and the database are hosted by the same company, for the same domain, this is a piece of cake, you only need to edit your wp-config.php file with your database server’s information. Your host will tell you this if you need to.

Heh, it probably is very simple. ?? Unfortunately, I’m the host, as I built both of these machines (which are hosted at our colo) and have pretty much forgotten everything I learned 2 years ago about getting it running.

They are in the same rack, adjacent IP addresses (old one FC4 upgraded in place from Red Hat 9, new one Fedora 8)

Still, this is good information, as it gives me an idea of where to start.

Go for “localhost”, “root”, and the root’s password then ?

Mind you, i’d recommend you install cpanel over everything and then managed it from cpanel, it would be simpler for you, then…
