If you want to host a site you’ve built yourself with the WordPress software you need a host that will let you host your own software. Refer to the Hosting page for more information.
Regardless of who you go with, if you’re going to host the website online you’ll need to pay for hosting and a domain name.
]]>wordpress just choose to not make any meaningful features available for free and online, exactly why i had to set up a server to build this project on.
It’s really not that simple, they are two separate beasts of software.
]]>There has to be some connections between the 2, why would you write to software packages that do similar things in completely different ways.
Because different users have different needs? Hardly a radical concept. WordPress.com is using the WordPress software to allow people to quickly and easily create a blog but with a limited feature set to dramatically reduce the chances of users breaking things or requiring support. Users with more advanced needs can use the software directly on their own host.
I should add this site will never go live, the requirement is just that it’s on wordpress.com for a week or 2.
Then the assignment has nothing to do with building your own themes or working with a local development environment.
