Moving my whole blog up a directory level

No, you don’t have to throw it out and start over just to move it (thankfully).

Go to Settings >> General and change both URLs to the new path

Then move your files.

If you get the order wrong you won’t be able to fix it without some painful work.

In summary, I would strongly recommend leaving all the WordPress files in the /blog folder and follow the instructions in that article to make WordPress appear in the root when someone just types the domain name.

I do all my WordPress sites that way.

I take that back, all you have to do is change the “Blog address” and leave your files.
