Moving my WordPress blog to Go Daddy Hosting

  • I need help!

    I hope this makes sense because I’m still trying to sort out the terminology.

    I have a WP blog and paid to have it redirect to my domain that I own (and have hosting) with Go Daddy. GD has told me that I need to download my blog files from WP and then upload them to the GD FTP. How do I download my WP files? I have ‘Exported’ my blog to my computer and then tired to upload to GD but that didn’t work. This was supposed to be a simple shift from not having .wordpress.com at the end of my site and it’s gotten all confusing.

    Any suggestions?

  • When you “exported” your blog, did you follow the instructions from https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/ ?

    How and where on GD are you trying to upload the above export?

    On GD, did you use the “auto installer” (or whatever GD calls theirs) to install WP first, and then import into that, or, are you trying to do a manual install on your GD account?

    If you want move from wordpress.com then you will install wordpress on your Go daddy account and then tools and import to import all content from the file you exported.

    I tried to resolve this with wordpress.com and they said to come to www.ads-software.com.

    I am trying to move my blog to wordpress.com to wordpress installed through Go Daddy. I have followed the prompts to export , download .xml file and then import the file and still no go. Here is the message I get on the new wordpress.

    “Internal Server Error.The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

    Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.”

    p.s on another matter, How do I get rid of this eeky looking avatar that is was created with my username. Should I not get a choice of whether to use one or not use one.
